RED
RIVER, New Mexico is a fascinating
little village away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
The people took the sign, “Slow Down and Live” to heart,
and the ease and enjoyment of living is contagious here. Red River
is a place many dream of, and their joy is boundless when they discover
this beautiful valley. It is the ideal place for family vacations.
There is something interesting for every family member.
“Young’s
Ranch Camp” was a vacation destination for over seventy years.
The card in this series is postmarked 1932. Original River City
settlers, J.B. Young and family were the proprietors of Young’s
Ranch Camp. The location today is a development for more lucky tourists,
longing to call Red River home.
Looking
up from the “Old Pass” into the area called Upper Valley,
you can see the lush beauty and understand why so many have built
vacation homes in the areas known as Valley of The Pines, Upper
Valley, Monte Vista, Querinda and Wheeler Peak Village. You can
still see the same view from the pass only the trees are bigger.
The tree on the left of the image is known as the “Lightening
Tree”. It is dead, the result of lightening from a severe
thunderstorm.
The
Old Red River Pass evokes fond memories for those who were traversing
the road to get to Red River. It remains a fun activity for tourists
and vacationers that want to travel up the Old Pass either by foot,
four-wheel drive or ATV.
Looking
Down upon Red River, you can’t help but get excited, knowing
the fun that lies ahead!
